Premier League leaders Manchester City are coming to Budapest for a Champions League fixture against Borussia Mönchengladbach on 24 February. The match had to switch locations from Germany because of pandemic restrictions there. For similar reasons, the Puskás Aréna will be hosting Liverpool against Leipzig on 16 February.

Following the news that Liverpool are coming to Budapest on 16 February, the Puskás Aréna will be hosting another major European fixture, Manchester City against Mönchengladbach, eight days later. The match could not be played in Germany as the authorities there have closed to borders to visitors from the UK due to the latest Covid variant.

Although the game will take place behind closed doors, it raises the question about which cities will host the upcoming European Championships. Original plans for a 12-location finals may have to be scrapped, probably leaving one or two venues in contention. Budapest has already hosted the UEFA Super Cup, in September 2020.
